Manchester City are set to complete the signing of River Plate striker Julian Alvarez who was a top target for AC Milan.
AC Milan are about to close the permanent signing of Pietro Pellegri. The Italian striker will be loaned out to Torino for the rest of the season. Fans had hopped that Pellegri’s departure would force the Rossoneri to sign a new striker and Julian Alvarez was the preferred name.
The Rossoneri had been following the Argentine ace for a long time and his agent has been at Casa Milan on several occasions. However, Alvarez is set to to join Premier League giants Manchester City.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the agreement is at the final stages. Manchester City will spend 16 million euros plus add-on for the 21-year-old striker. Julian Alvarez will spend the remaining of the season at River Plate and join Pep Guardiola’s side during the summer.
A favorable agreement for River Plate who receive a pleasing transfer fee for their striker and at the same time get to keep their player for six more months. Conditions that AC Milan were not able to offer River Plate despite having an agreement on personal terms with Alvarez.
The Rossoneri wanted to negotiate the purchase of Alvarez at the end of the season when the player would have only six months remaining on his contract with River Plate. A strategy that ultimately did not pay off.
