Paolo Maldini celebrates his 50th birthday today and he decided to give a special interview for the well-known journalist Federico Buffa of Sky Sport.

Among the topics addressed is that of his return to football as a manager, something that has not happened since his farewell in May 2009. On this topic he said: “My opportunities are limited, having passed all my life with AC Milan and with the Italian national team. In football I can only be linked to these two entities. I said yes to the Milan of Barbara Berlusconi, then I do not know what happened. I was close to occupying a desk job, according to what they told me. To Fassone’s Milan I said no, it’s true. It was probably the only thing I said“.

“For me the Red and Black is my second skin. I have only had two jerseys, the Red and Black and the blue one. And the choice, the real one, you do not make it as a child but little by little, understanding for example that that team has the same goals. There have been ups and downs. And the English arrived in those lows. Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. Going away in the bad moments? You don’t do that. I never considered leaving Milan and the club never thought of selling me. Milan the maximum for me”.

On AC Milan’s moment: “I’m worried. I do not think that UEFA has something with Milan, on the contrary I think they would like a strong Milan. Then we will see the developments.

The legendary number 3 also revealed that he was close to joining the national team on two occasions: “I had twice said yes to the position of team manager and we talked before the World Cup in Brazil and before the one in Russia. I have not heard anything since then“. We’ll see if something happens now with the recent change of course in the FIGC and the National team.
