Paris Saint-Germain have never lost sight of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan who was part of their squad for three seasons.
The new season has started on a high note for AC Milan. The Rossoneri have been dominating in their first three league matches securing 9 full points. However, luck has not been on AC Milan’s side in the Champions League. Stefano Pioli’s squad will face Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain on their group.
The match against Paris Saint-Germain will be a sweat return home for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The 28-year-old French shot-stopper started his career at PSG and was part of their squad from 2012 until 2015. Unfortunately, Maignan wasn’t able to make a single appearance for PSG and eventually joined Lille for e fee of ‘only’ €1 million.
The French goalkeeper excelled during his spell at Lille and went to win the Ligue 1 and the Super Cup stunning his old club along the way. He earned a €15 million transfer to AC Milan in 2021 playing a protagonist role in their Serie A triumph and reaching the Champions League semi-final. Great performances that PSG has always followed with great interest.
In fact PSG have never lost sight of Mike Maignan. Despite having Donnarumma in their ranks, the French giants will reportedly make an attempt to sign Mike Maignan. When Mike was asked about a possible transfer to PSG he replied: “I’m Parisian but today I’m under contract with AC Milan. And for the future we cannot know“, reports Le Parisien.
Unlike many other players under similar circumstances who often kiss the jersey and end up leaving at the first high offer they received, Maignan was honest admitting that in football you never know what is going to happen and an eventual transfer cannot be ruled out. Yhe 28-year-old was subject of great interest this summer.
Premier League duo Newcastle and Chelsea inquired about his services but AC Milan were firm in their stance that Mike Maignan leaves only in case of a €100 million bid. The Rossoneri have already opened talks to extend the contract of their start goalkeeper. The Italian club could offer Mike a contract of €5 million per season and there is the possibility to include a release clause in the new contract just like in Rafael Leao’s case.
