Lucas Paqueta is set to cost much more than the initial 35 million becoming the most expensive signing in AC Milan history.
In January 2019 AC Milan spent a total of 70 million euros for Lucas Paqueta and Krzysztof Piatek. In the second half of last season the two performed well enough to get AC Milan just one point away from Champions League qualification. However, one year later, Piatek has already left and Lucas will follow him shortly.
Despite the fact the Lucas Paqueta is set to leave at the end of the season he will leave becoming the most expensive signing in AC Milan history. In an interview with ESPN Brazil, Flamengo president Eduardo Bandeiro revealed that the Brazilian club is set to earn €45 million in total from the transfer of Lucas Paqueta to AC Milan.
“We sold Paqueta for 35 million. But the bonuses will bring the total earnings of Flamengo to 45 million euros“, said Eduardo Bandeiro. It’s not yet clear what extra bonuses will Milan pay in the future. But over the summer AC Milan had paid an addition figure of 3.4 million bringing the total fee for Paqueta to €38.4 million.
Nevertheless, despite becoming AC Milan’s most expensive signing ever, Lucas Paqueta has been a total flop at San Siro. The Rossoneri midfielder has yet to find his position on the pitch. The 22-year-old has been used as left winger, central midfielder and attacking midfielder without success in either role.
In a year and a half, Lucas Paqueta has made 36 appearances with AC Milan scored only one goal, against Cagliari at San Siro. The initial impact was positive, but then gradually the quality of his performance dropped dramatically. Neither Giampaolo nor Pioli managed to enhance him.
