Kjaer’s substitute: AC Milan’s strategy and first names
AC Milan must soon find a substitute for Simon Kjaer. Maldini is waiting for Elliott to approve the January transfer budget.
Unfortunately AC Milan’s adventure in the Champions League ended yesterday after a 2-1 defeat from Liverpool. Now the Rossoneri must turn their attention to Serie A and the last three matches before the Christmas break.
At Milanello there is a great desire for redemption after the European disappointment and the goal is to bounce back immediately starting from Saturday’s match at Udinese. Meanwhile, at Casa Milan, the management is working on the mercato trying to find a substitute for the injured Simon Kjaer.
Even without European cups, Stefano Pioli needs another centre back because the squad cannot face the second part of the season with only three central defenders (Tomori, Romagnoli and Gabbia). In the next few days the management will outline the January mercato strategy.
Elliott Management must decide whether to give the green light to an important investment of around 20-30 million euros or Maldini and Massara will have to repeat what they did a year ago with Fikayo Tomori and focus on a player on loan with right or obligation to buy.
In the meantime, the first transfer targets have emerged. MilanNews.it reports that Nikola Milenkovic of Fiorentina and Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen are high on Paolo Maldini’s list. Everything will depend on the budget that Elliott will make available to Maldini and sporting director Massara.
