Franck Kessie will bid farewell to AC Milan at the end of the season. The midfielder will move to Barcelona as a free agent.
After four years at San Siro, AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie will leave to join Barcelona. The news had been in the air for weeks because contacts between the AC Milan management and his agent George Atangana had stopped since December.
AC Milan spent €32 million to sign Kessie from Atalanta in 2017 but the Rossoneri will not be able to recoup anything from that fee. The 25-year-old will join the Spanish club as a free agent. Kessie will sign a five-year contract with Barcelona with wages of €6.5 million per season according to reports.
That’s practically the same salary AC Milan had offered to the Ivorian central midfielder. Although, Corriere della Sera claims otherwise reporting that the Rossoneri had offered Franck 4.5 million plus bonuses. Kessie’s agent, Atangana, will pocked a commission of 10 million from Barcelona.
AC Milan were not willing to offer Atangana any fee of that kind. The Rossoneri believed it was pointless to pay a commission for a player they already had in their ranks. Despite leaving as a free agent, there isn’t much regret on the Rossoneri camp for the departure of Franck Kessie.
Maldini and Massara expected such a move from the 25-year-old who has failed to replicate his fine form this season. The club had started to prepare for his departure since last summer. Tommaso Pobega and Yacine Adli will join Milan at the end of the season while Renato Sanches has been tipped to succeed Franck. The Portuguese is available for a fee of around €20 million.
