AC Milan wanted Igli Tare to become the new sporting director of the Rossoneri but the Albanian preferred to remain at Lazio.

It’s not a secret that AC Milan offered Igli Tare the role of sporting director this summer after Leonardo’s departure. Paolo Maldini and Zvonimir Boban did their best to convince the Lazio sporting director but without success. After Tare’s refusal Milan signed Frederic Massara.

The Albanian legend and former centre forward is very attached to Lazio and preferred not to leave Rome. Joining AC Milan would have been something stimulating but he wanted to continue in the Biancoceleste club and advance the good work of recent years. Certainly, similar opportunities will be offered to Tare again in the future if he continues to operate as done so far.

In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Tare explained his refusal to join Milan. I knew Zvone (Boban). He was my idol, he knows the reason. I knew Paolo only as a player and I got to know him better. He is an exemplary person. I have experienced first hand their love for Milan. Mine was also a choice of love. I realized that leaving Lazio would be a bad thing. I decided with my heart, not for money“.

The Lazio sporting director reveals that his decision was conditioned by the strong bond with the Biancoceleste club. He was flattered by the offer made by the Rossoneri but, nevertheless, he chose to remain in Rome.

Maldini and Boban opted for Massara in the role of sporting director, a low profile figure who knows international football very well. He worked for a long time with Walter Sabatini and was later promoted to sporting director of Roma. Milan is a great opportunity for Massara to show his managerial skills at the top level.
