Icardi to AC Milan: What really happened
AC Milan really tried to sign Mauro Icardi from Inter in the summer and had offered Krzysztof Piatek in exchange for the Argentine striker.
One of the most talked about transfers in the summer was that of Mauro Icardi. After a long back and forth with Inter, the Argentine striker joined Paris Saint-Germain on loan with the right to buy.
The 27-year-old striker has done very well in France scoring 20 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions. Considering the numbers, PSG would be trying to sign Icardo on a permanent transfer but either the French club or the player seem willing to extend their relationship.
Wife-agent Wanda Nara to Tiki Taka months ago revealed that in the summer there was the possibility of Mauro Icardi moving to AC Milan. However, in the end this sensational transfer did not become concrete.
Fabrizio Romano, Sky Sport journalist, confirmed that AC Milan had thought seriously about purchasing the Argentine centre forward in the last days of the last summer window. Inter was desperately trying to sell him, but the former Sampdoria striker refused all destinations. The AC Milan management asked his wife-agent Wanda Nara for information.
AC Milan were willing to offer Krzysztof Piatek in exchange for Icardi. Former coach Marco Giampaolo was not a fan of the Polish striker. A very complicated operation, also because the Nerazzurri club were not convinced by a swap deal. Inter didn’t want to strengthen their city-rivals and offering just Piatek without extra cash wasn’t enough for them.
The negotiation did not take off and then PSG appeared convincing Icardi to join them on loan. Despite a one-year adventure in France Mauro is nostalgic of Italy and will try to find an Italian club for next season. Juventus are in advantage while AC Milan seem out of the race due to the high cost.
