AC Milan must try to renew the contract of Zlatan Ibrahimovic for one more year but only under certain conditions.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic in scintillating form AC Milan can truly dream. Not so much for this season, already compromised. But rather for the foreseeable future. The Swedish striker yesterday was dominant, although his athletic condition is still not at the top. One goal scored, one canceled by VAR, one post hit and many class plays during the 90 minute. Not bad for a 38-year-old who had not played an official match since October.
However, there is only one problem that grips AC Milan. Ibrahimovic’s contract will expire on 30 June. As reported by his agent Mino Raiola, for now Ibra will help the Rossoneri until the summer. For the rest, we’ll see.
According to La Repubblica, Ibrahimovic must be tied down and soon. AC Milan cannot do without a leader still in great shape like the Swedish giant, who in a game and a half played has shown he can still make a difference in Serie A.
The club, in particular Paolo Maldini and Zvonimir Boban, will push for his renewal until June 2021. An extension which however will materialize under certain conditions.
First of all, the automatic renewal of Ibra, according to the clauses of his contract with Milan, will only take place in the event of Champions League qualification. A condition that is currently complicated, almost impossible, although mathematically still possible.
The second condition concerns the physical and athletic state of Ibrahimovic. Zlatan has already turned 38 and therefore wants to understand at the end of the season if he will still have the strength and desire to play and fight, or if the time for definitive greetings to the football played will have come.
Finally, much will depend on AC Milan’s summer plans. Yesterday Ibra admitted that in order to renew he will have to win the Scudetto. A joke, which however does not hide a background of truth. Ibrahimovic will remain only if Milan guarantees a team finally competitive for the top spots in Serie A ranking.
