How the exchange Suso-Callejon failed in the last moments (the backstory)
Before Elliott’s arrival at the helm of the club and the Leonardo-Maldini duo in management, for a long time it was discussed the possibility that Jose Callejon would arrive at Milanello in exchange for Suso.
The right-winger of Napoli was considered by Massimiliano Mirabelli to be an excellent reinforcement, for quality and experience. Manuel Quilon, the player’s agent, has always denied offers and contacts but some dialogue between him and the former Milan sporting director had happened. Among his clients in the Red and Black team there is also Pepe Reina and a few words on Callejon were exchanged.
Today Tuttosport reveals that it was practically closed the exchange between Jose Callejon and Jesus Suso, with an economic adjustment in favor of AC Milan given the young age of the former Liverpool. But the operation failed in its final stage. First of all, on Napoli’s bench arrived Carlo Ancelotti who took over from Maurizio Sarri, the coach that had strongly requested the Rossonero number 8. Secondly, the ownership of AC Milan changed with Elliott replacing the disastrous Chinese.
Suso was among the players who had suffered the most the exclusion of AC Milan from Europa League and therefore meditated his departure. But the CAS Tribunal of Lausanne overturned UEFA’s ruling and therefore the Spaniard had no reason to leave. Now in the team there is also Gonzalo Higuain, a striker with whom he can talk and to whom he can assist. The squad has improved and Suso himself knows he has to raise the level of his performances otherwise his compatriot Samuel Castillejo is ready to intervene.
