Marco Giampaolo is officially the new coach of AC Milan. With the former Sampdoria at the helm Milan will play with 4-3-1-2 and Lucas Paqueta as playmaker.
MILAN NEWS – AC Milan finally announced the appointment of Marco Giampaolo as the new coach of the first team. The Italian has signed a 2-year contract with with an option to extend for one more year until June 2022.
But how does Milan change with Giampaolo at the helm? According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri will use the 4-3-1-2 lineup. A trequartista will inject fantasy behind the two strikers. Giampaolo is a big fan of a diamond midfield with two central midfielder, a defensive one in front of the back-line and an attacking midfielder up front.
Lucas Paqueta will undergo an interesting tactical evolution. It is precisely the Brazilian, for obvious reasons, the one designated to become the trequartista behind the two centre forwards. The Italian coach wants to increase the responsabilities of the 21-year-old former Flamengo.
The technical skills of Lucas Paqueta are not in discussion but Marco Giampaolo is ready to ask him much more: “Saponara is the emblem of the perfect player because he has quality, runs and works a lot. A playmaker who does not run is one player less on the pitch, he becomes useless” explained Giampaolo a few years ago.
For the rest, waiting for new signings, the team would be: Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal, Andrea Conti more than Davide Calabria on the right, Mateo Musacchio and Alessio Romagnoli in the middle and Ricardo Rodriguez on the left. In midfield, with the departure of Tiemoue Bakayoko and waiting for purchases, the choice in the control room necessarily falls on Lucas Biglia, with Frank Kessie on the right and Hakan Calhanoglu on the left. In attack there will be Paqueta behind the attacking duo composed by Krzysztof Piatek and Patrick Cutrone.
