Hakan Calhanoglu has decided to rejected AC Milan’s renewal offer and join Inter on a three-year contract.
Hakan Calhanoglu will be a new Inter player. Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the AC Milan playmaker has chosen to remain in Milano but join the Nerazzurri instead after reaching an agreement with Marotta.
Calhanoglu will have his medicals tomorrow. His European adventure ended yesterday with the elimination of Turkey so the former Rossoneri number 10 will return to Italy to sign his new contract with Inter.
According to Di Marzio, Calhanoglu accepted Inter’s contract offer without much hesitation. Hakan will sign a three-year contract until 2024 at around 5 million euros (probably 4.5 plus 1 in add-ons) per season. AC Milan, on the other hand, were not willing to offer him more than 4 million. Apparently, the difference of about one million has convinced the 27-year-old to join Inter.
Calhanoglu’s agent, Gordon Stipic, had offered Hakan to Inter in the past but nothing was done. The recent heart problem of Christian Eriksen has forced Inter to sign a new attacking midfielder. Probably the former Tottenham star will not be allowed to play in Serie A following his cardiac arrest in the match against Finland.
Hakan Calhanoglu joined in 2017 from Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer fee of nearly €24 million. He was a regular starter in his four years at the San Siro. Last season, the 27-year-old midfielder scored 9 goals and assisted 12 in 43 appearances.
