The AC Milan left back that shined in the World Cup with the French national team has always been a target of Manchester City.

Theo Hernandez is finally cementing his status as a key player for the French national team after two years of playing at the highest level with AC Milan. The performances of the 25-year-old may surprise many who remember his Real Madrid time but not those who have followed him with the Italian champions.

Theo Hernandez is the best left-back in Serie A and surely one of the best in the world. Even this season, despite AC Milan’s ups and downs, Theo has been one of the best performers recording two goals and four assists in 18 appearances between Serie A and Champions League.

AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini did everything in his power and succeeded to convince Hernandez to extend his contract with the Rossoneri. Theo put pen to paper on a new deal until 2026 in February with his salary increasing to €4.5 million per season. At the same time he rejected the tempting approach of the Premier League.

As already reported by acmilaninfo.com, Theo Hernandez was a top transfer target for Manchester City. The English champions wanted Theo to replace Benjamin Mendy. Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola personally called the player and his Manuel García Quilón to convinced them on a move to England but without success.

Guardiola wanted to ensure the French player that he would play an important role for his squad but Hernandez had already set his mind to stay in Milan and refuse a much lucrative contract from Manchester City. Guardiola’s admiration for not enough to persuade Theo to leave the Red and Blacks.
