The RedBird era is finally about to begin. The American fund of Gerry Cardinale has become the new owner of AC Milan club buying a majority share from Elliott for 1.2 billion euros. The management team will not change and Paolo Maldini is immediately to work to build a competitive squad or next season.
Gazzeta dello Sport reports that Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo could be the first signing of RedBird. AC Milan have been following Zaniolo for a long time. Despite the Italian winger having a troubling injury record, the Rossoneri are convinced he can make the difference at San Siro and regain full fitness.
AC Milan have made an opening bid of €25 million plus Alexis Saelemaekers in exchange for Nicolo Zaniolo according to Gazzetta. Roma have rejected Milan’s first offer but Zaniolo is on the market. The Giallorossi are open to sell their star but in a cash-only operation without any technical counterparts involved.
The Italian newspaper reports that talks are not happening directly between the two clubs but through intermediaries. As always, Maldini and Massara prefer to work underground without much fanfare. The parties are trying to understand if the deal is really possible and possibly at what conditions. Roma value Zaniolo at least €50 million.
AC Milan and Juventus are the mostly likely destinations of Zaniolo. Roma coach Jose Mourinho prefers a player of different characteristics on that are of the pitch and is pushing for new signings.
