Gazzetta: How AC Milan’s plans for Donnarumma, Tomori & Vlahovic change without CHL

Fikayo Tomori

Failure to qualify for the Champions League would have lots of consequences for AC Milan and the transfer campaign of the club.

AC Milan against Cagliari could have obtained Champions League qualification but the Rossoneri failed to go beyond the 0-0. Everything will be played in Bergamo against Atalanta, one of the worst opponents to face.

The Rossoneri, with a win at the Gewiss Stadium, would secure a spot in the top four this year. On the other hand, with a draw it would be necessary for at least one of Napoli (playing against Hellas Verona) and Juventus (playing against Bologna) not to win.

Playing in the Champions League next season would have a very positive effect on Milan. It would be an important milestone regained after eight years, it would certainly give great enthusiasm to the club and a further boost for the future. The important economic consequences must be considered. The money from UEFA would help the balance sheet of the club and positively affect the transfer market.

Without Champions, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu’s contract renewals can become even more complicated. The negotiations have been frozen and will only resume at the end of the season but so far it has been difficult to find agreements. Winning against Atalanta and achieving qualification allow the club to speed up talks.

Another situation at stake is the permanent signing of Fikayo Tomori. With access to the Champions League, there would be no doubts. But without? According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan’s intention is in any case to buy the Chelsea defender. However, the 28 million euro operation would becomes much more difficult without Champions.

Brahim Diaz chapter. The Spanish attacking midfielder arrived on dry loan and should return to Real Madrid where he risks remaining on the bench. The two clubs will speak at the end of the season. The ideal solution could be to extend the loan for another season with the insertion of a buy option. Playing with some continuity and being able to do so in the Champions League would further help the growth of the former Manchester City talent.

The revenues from Champions will also be essential for the summer transfer campaign. Among the top objectives of the clubs is the purchase of a new striker who can alternate with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The dream is Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic. In order to sign Vlahovic Milan must spend at least 50 million euros. However, without Champions League, Milan must find another target.
