Gazzetta: AC Milan keen on Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay is a totally regenerated player in France after his struggles in England and AC Milan are observing with interest his progress.

After a January transfer window without any purchases, Milan has no intention of staying still even in the summer and sports director Massimiliano Mirabelli is already on work looking around Europe for potential targets. According to today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the name of Memphis Depay, Lyon’s left winger who previously played for Manchester United, is on the list of the Rossoneri director.

AC Milan, as well as other clubs, are keen on the Dutch player. Till the summer we will understand better what the intentions of the French club will be. Lyon in January 2017 spent 20 million euros to purchase the 23 year old but the Red Devils, have a buy-back option. If Depay were to disembark at Milanello, he would allow Calhanoglu to play more in his natural position of attacking (or central) midfielder.

The Dutch winger has been on the radar of the Rossoneri since his early days at PSV but Galliani, at the time, failed to reach an agreement and the player moved to England. Gifted with great technique and imagination, Depay still lack continuity and constancy, two areas where he must improve in order to become a top player but considering his young age, time is on his side.

Memphis Depay is also a Netherlands international and despite his young age he has made 34 appearances scoring on 8 occasions. He is often compared to his compatriot Arjen Robben for their similar style of play in cutting inside, dribbling, distance shooting and ability to play the ball off the ground.
