Gattuso: “AC Milan players without character and attributes”

Ugo Conti reveals that former AC Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso wasn’t happy with the quality of his players.

Last year, Gennaro Gattuso’s AC Milan came close to qualifying for Champions League. The Rossoneri ended the season in fifth place just one point behind Inter and Atalanta. Actor Ugo Conti, a close friend of Gattuso, interviewed by Radio Sportiva, returns to talk about that period.

In particular Conti revealed a sentence that Gattuso said to him, regarding the team: “Gattuso told me he had good players but without character, without attributes. In this way, in football everything becomes difficult“. A strong phrase from Rino on the team but that wasn’t taken into consideration by the management then. Now AC Milan are forced to make new signings in January to compensate for the lack of experience in their squad.

On the transfer market, first of all on Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ivan Rakitic, Conti declares: “I am of the party that is in favor of Ibra’s return with the Rossoneri. If Rakitic arrives too, we could do a nice period from January onwards. They are players that can also positively influence their teammates ”.

On Franck Kessie, excluded from the 23-man squad by Pioli last week: “We are at the end, I think that’s a right decision. He hasn’t been in good shape for a year, maybe because he wants to leave, perhapse for England. In the last few games his absence has not been felt and if he should leave he will not be missed“.

But that isn’t the first time Gattuso complained about the quality of his squad. Before the end of the season Rino explained that some transfer choices were only made for bureaucratic and financial reasons. “Many transfers were made only because some clubs owed money to us. Without taking anything away from Laxalt and Castillejo. We had problems with UEFA and we had to deal with this too. UEFA doesn’t allows us any kind of operations now“.
