AC Milan right back Alessandro Florenzi is not at all happy with the performances of Rafael Leao against Newcastle.
AC Milan won their last Champions League match against Newcastle at St. James Park. The Rossoneri overturned their initial disadvantage thanks to goals from Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze. Nevertheless, AC Milan are now officially out of Champions and will continue their European journey in Europe League.
It is a real pity considering that the Italians ended the group with equal points to Paris Saint-Germain. Interviewed by Sky Sport, Alessandro Florenzi commented on the victory against Newcastle. “A smile of regret. We won and played a great game in the second half. The regret of going down to the Europa League remains, but the objective was clear. Then what happened happened...”
On Rafael Leao: “Everyone knows how important Rafael Leao is. Today I’m furious with him. He should have finished the match with a brace. A player like him shouldn’t miss those opportunities.” The Portuguese winger missed a clear chance near the end of the second half when one on one against the Newcastle goalkeeper he hit the post.
The current one has been a less electric season than usual for Rafael Leao. The Portugal international has scored 4 goals and assisted another 4 in 17 appearances. At the same time, the 24-year-old left winger has yet to earn a regular starting spot for the Portuguese national team.
On the Europa League: “It must be an objective, there are strong teams in the Europa League too. I think we have to look game after game, wait for some players to return, but already from tonight we have had many important substitutions that we had missed until now. Whoever entered the match helped a lot. Tommaso Pobega also did really well”, said Florenzi.
