Fabrizio Romano: Milan transfer update on defender signing

AC Milan have started to make concrete steps to sign Matteo Lovato from Verona reports journalist Fabrizio Romano.

It is no mystery that AC Milan have set their sights on young Hellas Verona defender Matteo Lovato. Rossoneri technical director Paolo Maldini complemented the 20-year-old centre back in the match between the two squads.

The Rossoneri scouts are monitoring the Italian talent and an official bid is expected when the January transfer window opens. AC Milan already tried to buy a new centre back in the summer and will try again in January in order to give valid alternatives to coach Stefano Pioli.

According to reports by journalist Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan have started to take the first concrete steps for Lovato. Paolo Maldini has initiated contacts and knows he must move ahead of time, because there is competition to beat.

Lovato could leave Verona for about 15 million euros. The Gialloblu management had started from a request of 20 million, but this figure is negotiable and the 20-year-old defender could leave for less. Other transfer targets on Maldini’s list are Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic and Schalke 04’s Ozan Kabak but they have a higher price.”

AC Milan know they have to speed up talks to prevent Matteo Lovato from ending up elsewhere. Juventus are looking to rejuvenate their defence and also very interested in Lovato. On the other hand, Verona would prefer to keep their gem until the end of the season.
