AC Milan have not abandoned the idea of signing Gremio winger Everton Soares and a preparing a new bid in January.
The last days of the summer transfer window have been hectic. After so much time behind the whims of Atletico Madrid for Angel Correa, AC Milan eventually found itself forced to find a late alternative, Ante Rebic of Eintracht Frankfurt.
Among the various options considered, the Rossoneri also thought about Everton Soares. AC Milan have been on the trail of the Gremio winger for a year now. Leonardo was the first to try, then Paolo Maldini, Zvonimir Boban and Frederic Massara made an attempt in the last few days. The Brazilian club demanded a high figure of €40 million. But there was not enough time to solve the various technical bureaucratic issues complicating the particular situation of Everton.
Four subjects own a percentage of Everton’s card: Gremio, Fortaleza, his agent and a private fund. So Milan, in addition to satisfying the demand of the club, would have to sit at the table with the other parties and find a separate agreement. Too difficult to do this in the last few days of the mercato and with limited economic availability. But the Rossoneri have no intention of giving up. According to Calciomercato and Tuttosport, AC Milan are evaluating the possibility of a new bid for Everton in January 2020.
The problem will surely be the enormous and ever increasing competition for the player’s services after a summer as a protagonist in Copa America. Several Premier League and La Liga clubs are interested in Everton. However, Milan will try again, despite the difficulties of all kinds. Everton Soares is one of those players who would improve considerably the quality of the team.
Everton could offer a number of options to Giampaolo, the Brazilian is a left winger but he also plays as second striker or attacking midfielder. Thanks to Neymar’s injury, he was offered the chance to shine in the Copa America leading Brazil to winning the trophy and also becoming the competition’s top scorer. An important investment will be required for him and Maldini is well aware.
