AC Milan owners Elliot have increased the summer transfer budget available to Paolo Maldini to €80 million.

Milan News – Nicolo Barella will be one of the hottest players in the summer transfer market. The Cagliari central midfielder, who is worth € 50 million according to the Sardinian club, has been liked with Inter, but in the last few hours AC Milan have joined the race.

Paolo Maldini and Boban are fully convinced that the Italy international is a top class player that can help Milan achieve Champions League qualification this season. The Rossoneri have joined the race for his services after Elliott’s unexpected decision to increase the summer transfer budget to €80 million regardless of UEFA’s verdict on the FFP breach, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper explains that Maldini and Boban’s lobbying was crucial in convincing Gazidis and Elliot to invest more this summer. AC Milan have made official contacts with Cagliari in recent days and negotiations are proceeding ahead. After announcing the signing of Rade Krunic from Empoli, the Rossoneri are now totally concentrated on Barella.

Inter have reportedly agreed personal terms with the player but there is considerable difference with Cagliari. While Inter will not go beyond 35 million, Corriere della Sera claims that Milan have offered 35 million plus bonuses for Barella.

In order to close negotiations in a short time, AC Milan could include in this operation a technical counterpart like Diego Laxalt. The transfer budged increase to 80 million euros is a clear signal that Elliot is planning important investments this summer.
