Di Marzio: Two names lead the race for AC Milan striker position

Gianluca Di Marzio gives an update on AC Milan’s situation in attack with two names now leading the race.

Marcus Thuram landed in Italy today to sign for Inter. AC Milan had been in talks with the French striker for over two months but instead Thuram ended up joining the city rivals in what is considered a shockig transfer. Nevertheless, the Rossoneri have turned page and are looking around at different names.

Transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the race for the centre forward job is now between two names. Furlani and Moncada are evaluating the signing of one between Gianluca Scamacca and Alvaro Morata. The Italian and the Spanish striker are now represent totally different packages and visions.

AC Milan have approached West Ham to sign Gianluca Scamacca on loan with an option to buy. However, the Premier League club are not interested in letting Scamacca leave on loan. West Ham want to monetize and for now are only taking into consideration offers for permanent transfer. It’s unlikely for AC Milan to match West Ham’s asking price of 30 million for Scamacca who only scored 3 Premier League goals last season.

Instead Alvaro Morata is available to favorable conditions. The 30-year-old Spanish striker can leave Atletico Madrid if his release clause of around €15 million is activated. Morata would love to return to Italy where he spent four seasons with Juventus. The player’s agent have already offered his services to the Rossoneri.

In addition, Morata is willing to lower his salary in order to make a move to AC Milan possible. Although his age is an issue, the candidacy of Alvaro Morata is really strong. Milan appreciate a lot his experience at the top level and familiarity with Serie A. Also Stefano Pioli is also in favor of his signing. The Spain international ended the season with 15 goals and 3 assists in 45 appearances for Atletico Madrid.

Economically the signing of Alvaro Morata represents a great opportunity for AC Milan. It is highly improbable for AC Milan to spend over €20 million this summer for a new striker. The Rossoneri will also need to strengthen the midfield and right wing with quality players. Furthermore, not all of the €70 million fee from Tonali’s sale will be reinvested back in the club.
