Di Marzio: AC Milan pull the plug on winger

Signing a new right winger is a priority for AC Milan this summer but after Thauvin the Rossoneri are about to lose another target.

At the end of the season Samuel Castillejo will bid farewell to AC Milan. The €21 million signing has failed to live up to expectations since his arrival from Villarreal in 2018. Purchasing a new right winger is among the top summer priorities of the Rossoneri this summer.

Having lost Florian Thauvin to Mexican side Tigres, Lucas Vazquez is the new target strongly linked with AC Milan. Just like Thauvin, the Spanish right winger becomes a free agent at the end of the season and has refused to extend his contract.

Spanish newspaper AS recently reported that if Lucas Vazquez doesn’t his renew his contract with Real Madrid he “he will almost certainly go to Milan. An experienced player with over 240 appearances for Los Blancos looks like a perfect opportunity for the Rossoneri but Gianluca Di Marzio doesn’t think so.

AC Milan have pulled the plug on Vazquez according to Di Marzio for purely economic reasons. The 29-year-old winger currently earns 3.5 million in Spain but is asking for an improved contract. Milan have offered him a three-year contract at 4 million plus-ads but the player is asking for more. Apparently he wants a deal of at least 7 million with his agents pretending a high commission fee.

At this terms the Rossoneri are no longer interested have started to look around for alternatives. There is no clear frontrunner for the role but Lille star Jonathan Ikone is believed to be Paolo Maldini’s preferred choice.
