CorSport: Rangnick’s two doubts on AC Milan

Ralf Rangnick

Ralf Rangnick is not fully convinced of joining AC Milan. There are two factors holding him back, although Ivan Gazidis’ offer is tempting.

If after the words of Zvonimir Boban the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as AC Milan’s next coach seemed guaranteed, now the scenario seems less certain. Even if the former AC Milan executive spoke of a contract having been signed already in December, in reality things could be different.

Sky Sport Germany recently reported that Rangnick had refused the offer of Ivan Gazidis and Elliott Management Corporation fund. Subsequently the agent of the German coach denied the existence of a signed agreement but confirmed contacts with the AC Milan CEO.

Rangnick’s hesitation to accept AC Milan’s offer concerns two key aspects reports Corriere dello Sport. The German’s biggest doubt is related to his effective freedom of action, he wants total freedom on the transfer market and player selection. The second is inherent in the concrete economic possibilities of implementing his project at Milan. In fact, the club must be careful with the budget to respect the constraints related to the Financial Fair Play.

At Hoffenheim first, then at Salzburg and Leipzig latter, Rangnick always had full powers and an adequate budget to achieve his goals. The situation at AC Milan home is particular and perhaps not ideal for the 61-year-old German. The Rossoneri have proposed a three-year project that attracts him, given that Milan are one of the most glorious clubs in Europe, but there are also doubts.

It should not be excluded that the denials circulated are part of an ad hoc operation in order not to create disturbances for the team and Stefano Pioli. Boban’s statements, which were followed by so much tension and his farewell, did not do the group any good. Against Genoa the performance was bad both in terms of mental approach and play.
