The January transfer window has officially opened and AC Milan are looking with a certain urgency to strengthen their midfield ranks. Three names are currently being assessed.

A serene new year start at Casa Milan. The club still sits much behind in the standings compared to the other big Italian teams but in Europa League and Italian Cup the Rossoneri march on with confidence. Optimism also regarding the financial issues: AC Milan will save at least 7 million euros were paying as compensation for Montella’s (and his staff) breach of contract, more income will be added to that budget with several possible departures in the January transfer window that will open tomorrow, January 3rd. Despite the limited options, the rossoneri will invest or at least operate on the incoming market session.

As previously reported, the midfield is the department that AC Milan urgently want to fix and reinforce with new blood. Few choices have been made available to Gennaro Gattuso, who will allow young Jose Mauri to move on loan to gain more experience and free a place in the squad. A new midfielder is needed that can guarantee more experience and quality in that department.

Mousa Dembele

Il Corriere dello Sport today indicates three names that Milan is considering signing this January. The first is 30 year old Moussa Dembele, central midfielder of Tottenham who is no longer considered a stable starter and could choose to change environment. The Belgian is a speedy, physical and good in the air midfielder that would be an ideal substitute of Franck Kessie. His contract expires in June 2019 but in London they are sure he will leave much sooner.

Jakub Jankto

Milan Badelj is the next target, Fiorentina’s Croatian player whose contract expires next June. The Viola would like him to commit for much longer, but the 28 year old awaits Milan’s proposal. Former coach Montella is also interested in him and would like to take him immediately at Sevilla. The last alternative is Jakub Jankto, promising talent of Udinese who was scouted since last summer. Improbable that Udinese will allow him to leave in January, but Milan will make a concrete attempt in the coming weeks.
