In 2018 AC Milan tried to sign Lazio striker Immobile. Negotiations fell through and the Rososneri signed Higuain instead.
The current Italian Serie A top scorer could have played for AC Milan. Alessandro Moggi, agent of Ciro Immobile, reveals that the Lazio striker was close to joining the Rossoneri.
Ciro Immobile has been in excellent form since returning to Serie A in 2016. The Italian national team centre forward has scored over 110 goals for Lazio in the last 4 years.
“There is interest in his services – said Moggi – In the past there have been close contacts with AC Milan and Inter, or last year with Chinese clubs. Now he has a contract with Lazio until 2023 and Lazio will decide his future.”
At the end of the 2017/18 season, Immobile was Serie A’s top scorer with a total of 41 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions. His great form attracted the attention of AC Milan. Elliot who had just taken control of the club wanted to present themselves before the fans with an important signing.
Milan were in discussions to sign the Lazio star during the summer but negotiations fell through in the end. After failing to buy Immobile, the Rossoneri signed Gonzalo Higuain on loan. A wrong decision that could have changed the fate of Milan. While Higuain left after only six months at Milan, Ciro Immobile stayed with Lazio and today the Biancocelesti are just one point behind Serie A leaders Juventus.
