Cardinale offers Ibrahimovic new club role
AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has offered Ibrahimovic the chances to return to the clubs following his retirement from football.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his return to AC Milan after his decision to retire from football at the end of last season. In tears, the Swedish giant announced at the last home match that his time as a football player had come to an end. The 42-year-old decided that it was finally the right time to make his comeback at his old home.
Ibrahimovic paid a visit to the entire team and the coaching staff shortly before the Champions League match against Newcastle that ended in a goalless draw. The former AC Milan centre forward tried to motivate the squad and the entire environment after the harsh defeat suffered against Inter. At the same time, Ibra asked the fans to unconditionally keep supporting the Rossoneri.
But that was not the end of it. Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a personal meeting with AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale. The American businessman offered Ibrahimovic the chance to return to the club on a yet unspecified role. However, the idea of Cardinale, and Furlani, is to have Ibra serve as a link between the management and the players.
A sort of team manager role that for now doesn’t seem very appealing to Ibrahimovic. Zlatan would instead prefer a management role possibly as sporting or technical director. The Swede has thanked Cardinale for his offer and will give a response at a second time but for now the conditions don’t seem ripe for his return.
The 42-year-old has been busy lately with his business activities and seems oriented to continue in this front. The chances of him being offered a management role by Cardinale are practically zero. Giorgio Furlani serves as club CEO while Geoffrey Moncada, although official has the role of head-scout, serves de facto as sporting director take care of player transfers.
