New Inter player Hakan Calhanoglu talks for the first time about leaving AC Milan and joining the city-rivals.
Hakan Calhanoglu was recently unveiled as a new Inter player. After four years with the Rossoneri he decided to move to the other side of town. In an interview with DAZN and Inter Tv, the 27-year-old tried to explain his choice without being very nice to his former club.
Hakan’s move to Inter was perhaps unexpected. The gesture of the Turk unleashed all the anger of the AC Milan fans, who saw him leave AC Milan in an ungrateful way, on a free transfer and to the direct city rival. Calhanoglu is well aware but somehow tried to justify himself.
“Everything happened very quickly, Ausilio and Inzaghi called me. If a team that is already strong wants you, there is a great desire to go there. The noise is made by the fans, it is perfectly normal. For a player like me it is normal. But I’m not the first nor the last. Many players have passed from Milan to Inter and vice versa, which is why I am neither the first nor the last. I just wanted to look forward to my future, always with great respect for Milan. I have done many things for Milan in 4 years, I have respected everyone. Those who know me knew everything. But I have a new adventure at Inter and I have to look forward“.
It has been rumored that Calhanoglu did non have an idyllic relationship with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. And Calhanoglu’s statements confirm there isn’t much dialogue between the two: “I was thinking about the European and he was on vacation thinking about his knee problem. We have not heard each-other and we have not talked about this transfer for now, but some day we will talk about it”.
Finally, Hakan Calhanoglu takes a swipe at AC Milan claiming that only coach Stefano Pioli wanted him at the club. “Pioli was the only man who strongly wanted me at Milan. We spoke very often before moving to Inter, but he respected my decision and wished me the best“.
