AC Milan are discussing with Venezia to recall Mattia Caladra. The Italian defender is playing very well this season and is familiar with the Rossoneri environment.
Simon Kjaer’s serious knee injury, whose season is practically over, has changed the cards and will force AC Milan to return to the market and sign a new centre back. AC Milan had planned to make significant investments in attack but the Dane’s stop has changed the management’s project.
With only three available centre backs (Tomori, Romagnoli and Gabbia), Pioli needs a new defender to complete the squad. Paolo Maldini and the director Frederic Massara are already working to find the right profile. However, Milan don’t want to get a new player just to fill the void. The Rossoneri want a player who can really improve the squad.
The idea is to bring a new defender to Milanello that is already familiar with Serie A. Someone who will require no time to assimilate team patterns and language in the shortest possible time. That’s the reasons why AC Milan are seriously thinking of recalling Mattia Caldara from Venezia reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The former Atalanta star has returned to play at high levels after three difficult years filled with numerous injuries. Venezia have enjoyed a comfortable season so far and find themselves five points above the relegation zone. Caldara has given an important contribution in the recent success of Paolo Zanetti’s side.
According to Gazzetta, AC Milan and Venezia are already negotiating the return of Mattia Caldara. Neverthelees, convincing the Neroverdi to let go of a key player will not be easy. The 27-year-old centre back moved to Venezia on loan until the end of the season with the option to make the transfer permanent for €4 million. Caldara joined AC Milan in the summer of 2018 in a swap deal with Leonardo Bonucci. Both players were rated €37 million at that time.
