AC Milan could lose top summer target because of Elliott

Elliott have frozen the mercato and AC Milan could lose Sven Botman despite having an agreement with the Dutch defender.

Near the end of the season it seemed like Investcorp would acquire AC Milan from Elliott. However, a much better offer from RedBird Capital is set to make the American fund the new owners of the Rossoneri club. A U-turn that risks having a severe impact on AC Milan’s mercato planning for next season.

Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara have worked for many months on a number of players. Sven Botman is the primary transfer target of AC Milan for the upcoming shopping window. The Rossoneri have been in contact with the Dutch defender for over six months in order to anticipate the competition of other clubs.

Maldini has a full agreement on personal terms with Botman over a five-year contract. At the same time, there is a verbal agreement with Lille on a transfer fee of around €33 million. However, the season is over and Maldini is unable to close the signing of the 22-year-old centre back.

The AC Milan technical director has being given no money to spend. Elliott have stopped the mercato postponing everything for a latter time. It must be RedBird to finance the upcoming summer transfer campaign but there is no clear date when the change of ownership will happen. That is already having a negative impact on Botman.

The Lille defender is reportedly frustrated by this situation and other clubs are trying to profit from AC Milan’s forced withdrawal. Botman still prioritizes a transfer to AC Milan but he wants clarity. In the meantime, Newcastle have made another improved offer. The Premier League club are determined to snatch the Netherlands international from the Rossoneri.
