AC Milan were offered the opportunity to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Sebastian Rudy this summer but everything failed in the end.
This summer was a bit peculiar for the Rossoneri club. Massimiliano Mirabelli opened the transfer campaign with a couple of free agent signings, Pepe Reina, Strinic and Halilovic, but after the unexpected change of ownership Leonardo had to take over with just 20 days at his disposal to complete Gennaro Gattuso’s squad. The results were excellent, timing considered, but Milan were unable to bring some targets at San Siro.
Calciomercato reveals today that the Rossoneri were in discussions to purchase Bayern Munich midfielder Sebastian Rudy. In fact, it was the German giants who had offered Milan the chance to sign Rudy.
The 28 year old German international plays as central or defensive midfielder and could have acted as Lucas Biglia’s replacement. Sporting director Leonardo was considering this option but the negotiations failed when Schalke presented themselves with an offer of 16 million euros.
Sebastian Rudy joined Bayern Munich from Hoffenheim on a free transfer in 2017 and made 35 appearances in his only season for the Bavarians. However this was not the first time Rudy was close to joining Milan. The Rossoneri tried to sign him in the summer of 2017 on a free transfer but Rudy preferred Bayern at the time. Also in 2012 Hoffenheim offered Milan to Rudy sign but Adriano Galliani had other targets in mind and turned down the opportunity.
