Bakayoko explains his tense relationship with Gattuso
Former AC Milan defensive midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko explains his tense relationship with coach Gennaro Gattuso.
MILAN NEWS – Tiemoue Bakayoko joined AC Milan after a disastrous first season in England. Chelsea invested €40 million to satisfy the wishes of former coach Antonio Conte but the French midfielder was just a shadow of himself at Monaco.
However, AC Milan former sporting director Leonardo was convinced in the qualities of the 24-year-old and signed him on loan with the right to buy. After a difficult beginning of the season Bakayoko transformed into one of the best Rossoneri players.
He made 42 appearances with the Red and Blacks but in the end AC Milan opted against his permanent signing for €35 million. A controversial decision influenced by AC Milan’s failure to qualify for Champions League and some ugly episodes with the Bakayoko as protagonist. First, in collaboration with Kessie, he mocked Acerbi and later got into a verbal fight with coach Gennaro Gattuso.
Tiemoue, who has now returned to Chelsea, explains his relationship with coach Gattuso in an interview with L’Equipe: “I experienced a difficult time, especially at the beginning. I’m sad to leave Milan but it’s life. With Gattuso it was a tense relationship, we didn’t really go along with each other. But in the end we were both focused on the goal of taking back to the Champions League. Unfortunately, we did not succeed.
I do not necessarily want to talk about my former coach. The controversy after Milan-Bologna? It was difficult to hear certain things, knowing that they were false. It did not happen as it was told. But we know the current world, a single news is enough… But I have no grudge“.
