Agent explains why AC Milan did not sign Kvaratskhelia
AC Milan were one of the teams closely linked with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia before his summer transfer to Napoli.
Rafael Leao and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are the two standout stars of the new Serie A season. The AC Milan Portuguese winger has scored 4 goals and assisted another 4 while the new Napoli star has found the back of the net on 5 occasions and assisted two.
“Kvara is thin, agile, looks for space with feints, is almost messy in dribbling, which makes him incomprehensible. Leao conquers the field by appearing, he has the grace of a Russian dancer, he just needs to send the ball forward to have the advantage he needs. Basically Leao is as vertical as Kvara is full of edges and curves but the result is often similar“, writes Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti comparing the two.
However, Leao and Kvaratskhelia could have been teammates this season if Milan hadn’t made other choices. The Rossoneri had followed the 21-year-old Georgia international for a long time during his time in Russia playing for Rubin Kazan. His agent Cristian Zaccardo explains what happened.
“The Giuntoli and Micheli staff had intuition and courage, with the support of the vice president Edoardo De Laurentiis. Napoli were skilled and timely. I only followed the Napoli story but the feeling is that the other big names, AC Milan and Juventus, with Leao and Chiesa felt they were okay, for example“, said Zaccardo.
Despite being a natural left winger, Kvara has often played on the right wing and as second striker. AC Milan were really interested in his services but ultimately they decide the player was better skilled for the left wing rather than the right and Milan already were covered with Leao and Rebic on that side.
