Now that the incoming market has been unlocked AC Milan will have to resolve the situation of many players who are expected to leave. There are many redundancies in the squad.

We are currently too many and the squad must be shorter“, Gennaro Gattuso said in the press conference, on the eve of today’s big match against Barcelona. The Rossoneri coach wants a shorter squad, without many players who are not part of his technical project. Gustavo Gomez transferred to Palmeiras, but that’s not enough. Many of the redundancies, among other things, have expiring contracts in 2019, namely: Luca Antonelli, Riccardo Montolivo, Gabriel, Andrea Bertolacci and José Mauri.

The first two have been for a lot of time out of Gattuso’s plans. Antonelli is closed by Rodriguez and Strinic, Montolivo instead by Lucas Biglia and Manuel Locatelli (he was not even called up for the International Champions Cup). For neither of them, however, at the moment, there are concrete offers. The same situation for Mauri, but he seems well integrated within the Rossoneri group. Gabriel will not renew, as revealed by his agent, and he has many suitors. Regarding Bertolacci the situation is not yet clear: Gattuso initially blocked him however there is still talk of an ongoing negotiation with Genoa.

Other possible sales concern the attack. With the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain, the strikers in the squad are now five. Patrick Cutrone is the only untouchable, Nikola Kalinic and Carlos Bacca are sure to depart. But the exit rout for the moment remains blocked: Atletico Madrid is still working for the Croatian, while the Colombian is still subject of negotiations with Villarreal, who continue to reject Milan’s economic demands. André Silva’s future remains the true mystery. Last year an important investment was made for him and now the club does not want to under-sell him. Two probable solutions on the table: loan, or the sale only for a figure equal to that spent a year ago (38 million euros).
