AC Milan to remove Maignan from Champions League list

The French goalkeeper suffered an injury while on international duty leaving AC Milan with only Antonio Mirante available.

The injury situation at AC Milan goes from bad to worse. The Rossoneri players are plagued by numerous physical problems. Mike Maignan is the latest to join the long list of injured players with Ibrahimovic, Rebic, Theo Hernandez, Florenzi, Origi, Calabria and Sandro Tonali out for a couple of games.

The 27-year-old suffered a calf injury while on international duty with France. He was forced to leave the match against Austria during the half-time break. Mike Maignan is expected to stay out for at least three weeks according to first medical tests.

At this point it seems sure that the French goalkeeper will not be available for the two upcoming crucial matches against Chelsea. For this reason the management and Stefano Pioli are evaluating whether to exclude Maignan from the Champions League squad list.

The implementation of the article 46.2 of UEFA’s competition code would allow AC Milan to temporarily remove Maignan from the A list with the relative inclusion of Ciprian Tatarusanu. The two goalkeepers could switch places again for the next match against Dinamo Zagreb scheduled for October 25 in Croatia.

AC Milan currently have only two goalkeepers on their Champions League squad list: Mike Maignan and Antonio Mirante. Tatarusanu, who is AC Milan’s second goalkeeper, was left out. Mirante, who joined Milan last year after a small period of inactivity, has yet to make an official appearance with the Rossoneri.
