Gds: AC Milan to postpone signing of top CB
For long AC Milan have been searching for a new centre back but plans may change at the end of the summer transfer window.
Yesterday AC Milan secured qualification to the Europa League group stage. Only after a record of 24 penalties could the Rossoneri defeat Rio Ave, with the 120 ending in 2-2.
Qualification to the group stage immediately provides 15 million euros for the club. Money that the management plans to invest on new singings and the priority at the moment seems to be the defence.
AC Milan have been looking for a centre back for some time now but it is not certain that they will buy him from now until Monday, the day the summer transfer window closes.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews.it), at the moment the most likely solution is in fact that the Rossoneri wait until January to reinforce their back line. Pioli will have to settle for the return of Romagnoli after the international break and the ever closer recovery of Musacchio and Duarte.
Apparently there are two factors pushing Milan towards this decision. Both Musacchio and Duarte are injured and the Rossoneri are unable to either loan or sell them. The second is AC Milan desire to bring in a top name and to avoid settling for the second best. The top two picks of Maldini have always been Fofana and Milenkovic. Tomiyasu is one the other hand is a promising player but not one that deserves an investment of more than 20 million euros.
