AC Milan to play Verona with 10 players injured
AC Milan are in a state of total emergency with nearly half of their squad out because of injuries.
Serie A football returns this weekend after the international break. AC Milan will host Hellas Verona at the San Siro on Saturday but coach Stefano Pioli will have to prepare the upcoming match without half of his squad at his disposal. Literally, the situation couldn’t be worse with 10 players out.
Unavailable players start from the goal with both Mike Maignan and Alessandro Plizzari set to return next year. For this reason AC Milan have signed a new goalkeeper. Maignan underwent a successful surgery today but will need at least 10 weeks to recover completely. Mirante and Tatarusanu will now compete for the number one role.
Problems continue in defence. Theo Hernandez just returned with a golden medal from the Nations League but the French left-back resulted positive to Covid and is not yet clear when he will return. Davide Calabria needs a bit more time to recover se he will not be risked for Milan vs Verona but he will be available next match. Florenzi is set to make his comeback at the beginning of next week.
Timoue Bakayoko is in a similar situation to Calabria. He needs a couple of days more to recover and should be available for the Champions League match against Porto. Rade Krunic too is set to return with Porto. Daniel Maldini‘s recovery proceeds well but his situation must be evaluated in the coming days.
Another awful news was the injury of new signing Junior Messias. The Brazilian played only 16 minutes against Atalanta but should stay out for three weeks. The recovery of Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been much slower than initially thought. Stefano Pioli hopes to have the Swedish striker for the Champions League match against Porto. The only positive new is the full recovery of Olivier Giroud.
