AC Milan have been tireless on the transfer market but the Rossoneri plan to make more signings until the mercato is over.
AC Milan have been tireless on the transfer market this summer. Enthusiasm has returned among the fans after the initial shock following the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle. The Rossoneri have so far signed 8 players for the first team for a total spending of around €140 million, bonuses included, if we take into consideration also Yunus Musah whose transfer is not yet official.
Practically all new arrivals have a cost in the region of €20 million. There is much curiosity of to see if Christian Pulisic, Tijjani Reijnders and especially Samuel Chukwueze will live up to the hype. However, this is not the end of AC Milan’s mercato. The Rossoneri plan to sign 4 or 5 more players until the summer window is over.
New arrivals are projected in every department on the pitch starting from the defence. Recent friendly matches have highlighted the big shortcomings on the Rossoneri’s back line. Tomori, Kajer and Kalulu are not at their best shape and perhaps another centre back of level is required. The Rossoneri will explore the market for a young and promising player that should take Gabbia’s place.
A new left back should have arrived by now. However, Ballo-Toure left AC Milan furious for rejecting a transfer after everything was agreed. Ballo-Toure would prefer to stay in Italy with Bologna interested in his services. Regardless, he will leave and a new left back will arrive. A new right back is on the cards as well with both Florenzi and Calabria continuously suffering physical problems.
AC Milan’s midfield has been completely revamped with Tonali leaving, Bennacer getting injured and Loftus-Cheek, Reijnders and Musah joining. Nevertheless, AC Milan are clearly missing a playmaker. Despite Pioli’s attempts, Reijnders is a mezzala as he himself has admitted. Names like Dominguez or Hjulmand are being considered but no final decision has been made.
While a playmaker is up in the air a new centre forward will surely arrive. Noah Okafor and Olivier Giroud will have another teammate to complete the department. Argentine starlet Alejo Veliz is considered the frontrunner for the job. Lorenzo Colombo will leave either on loan or permanently.
