AC Milan to let key player leave in January at half price

AC Milan are set to let one important player leave during January in order to finance the winter transfer campaign.

The summer transfer window closed just a few weeks ago but in reality the mercato never stops with clubs always working on player transfers regardless of the name of the month. One of the players that was at the center of AC Milan’s summer movements was Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer. The 26-year-old received interest from several clubs but a transfer did not materialize at the end.

In fact, things got worse for the player and the club because, immediately after the summer transfer window closed, Ismael Bennacer suffered a serious injury that is expected to keep him off the pitch for around three months. In the meantime, coach Pauolo Fonseca has decided to call up for the first team two highly promising youngsters from Milan Futuro like Kevin Zeroli and Silvano Vos. However, their inclusion in the first team may be much more long term than some anticipate.

That’s because AC Milan remain adamant in their decision to part ways with Ismael Bennacer and will try to offload him in January according to reports. The Rossoneri management plan to finance the winter business with an important sale writes MilanLive. The three candidates are Samuel Chukwueze, Malick Thiaw and precisely Bennacer who has the most changes of leaving also due to his high salary.

Ismael Bennacer played a key role in AC Milan’s Scudetto triumph but his performances last season were quite underwhelming, also influenced by a serious injury. The importance of the 26-year-old under the coach and management eyes has faded a lot with Paulo Fonseca considering Reijnders and Fofana much more central to his project.

At the start of the summer transfer window AC Milan were asking the full value of Bennacer’s release clause of €50 million in order to let him leave. However, after it because apparent that no Arab club would pay that fee as the Rossoneri were hoping, the asking price has dropped a lot. Now, AC Milan are ready to let go their central midfielder for a fee of €20 million.
