AC Milan set disappointing summer budget despite Champions League success

AC Milan will receive high revenues from their Champions League success but that will not be translated into a bigger summer transfer budget,

AC Milan reach the Champions League semi-final for the first time in sixteen years. The Rossoneri equalized against Napoli but progress to the next stage thanks to their narrow home win in the first leg. A solo run from Rafael Leao and some magnificent saves from Mike Maignan proved crucial in the last encounter.

The Italian champions will receive an additional €20 million (at least) for reaching the Champions League semi-final. Nevertheless, the Rossoneri are not expected to be very active on the upcoming summer transfer window. The recent success in Europe will allow Milan to close the year at a financial loss in single digits or even with profit for the first time in a very long period.

Yet, the club will continue its sustainability rout despite the last positive financial results. AC Milan will invest a figure of around 50 million for the upcoming summer transfer window according to reports. The €50 million budget will be in line with the same figure that the club spent last summer, with the majority of it going for the signing of Charles De Ketelaere from Club Brugge.

The €50 million budget does not include any profits that might be generated from player trading. Three are the players that could influence in this regard. The first is certainly that of Rafael Leao. The player wants to stay, Milan want to keep him but an agreement still looks far. If Leao doesn’t renew he will be sold this summer. The Portuguese left would bring in a high fee but that’s a scenario that AC Milan will try to avoid at all costs.

The other two names that could bring in sizeable figures are Divock Origi and Charles De Ketelaere. The Belgian striker has been a big disappointment and Milan will try to offload him. De Ketelaere has failed to live up to expectations as well. Officially, Milan claim that he will stay for next season but if an offer of around €30 million arrives from England he will surely leave.
