AC Milan thinking of proven goal scorer to replace Abraham

The adventure of Tammy Abraham at San Siro could be short lived with AC Milan looking to sign a proven goal scorer in his place.

Tammy Abraham joined AC Milan in the last hours of the summer transfer window. The English centre forward arrived as a substitute for Alvaro Morata but, thanks to a slight injury of the Spaniard, became a regular starter for Paulo Fonseca. The Portuguese coach does not have faith in Luka Jovic and strongly wanted to have Abraham under his orders.

AC Milan signed Tammy Abraham on a loan deal from Roma without an option to make the deal permanent and he immediately was given the chance to prove himself at San Siro. Fonseca’s decision to move to a system with two strikers favored the 27-year-old who has often partnered with Morata up front. Tammy caught the eye for his willingness to sacrifice himself and play for his teammates, but he is far from perfect in front of the goal.

So far the former Chelsea and Roma striker has scored only one goal (on penalty against Venezia) and provided two assists. Against Fiorentina he then reminded everyone that he is not exactly a sniper in front of the goal by missing a penalty that was supposed to be taken by Christian Pulisic. A very ugly gesture with him, in collaboration with Fikayo Tomorri, practically stealing the ball form Pulisic. The performance against Fiorentina could represent a turning point for Tammy Abraham, who is now seriously at risk of losing starting role and also casts a shadow on his future.

According to recent reports, AC Milan are already considering adding a proven goal scorer to their ranks and fast. Jonathan David continues to be linked with the Rossoneri but AC Milan have Santiago Gimenez at the top of their wish list. The 23-year-old Mexico international has been a goal machine since joining Feyenoord. Santiago Gimenez scored 28 goals and assisted 3 in his first season in Europe while last year he found the back of the net on 26 occasions and provided 8 assists. The new season has started again on a high note for Gimenez who has already scored 4 goals and assisted 2 in 7 appearances with the Dutch squad.

A third season in row of over 20 goals seems guaranteed for Gimenez while AC Milan have lacked for a very long time a striker that can produce such numbers on a constant basis. AC Milan scout reports have been glaring for Santiago Gimenez who refused a Premier League transfer this summer because he wants to leave Feyenoord only for an important club. His agent has been at Casa Milan several times during recent month to met with the Rossoneri management. Feyenoord are asking a fee of around €35 million in order to part ways with Santiago Gimenez.

The Rossoneri have always considered Tammy Abraham as a temporary solution. That’s why they did not commit to a permanent transfer during the summer. On the other side, Santiago Gimenez represents a great opportunity. A young but very experienced centre forward with ample room for improvement that also has a reasonable price tag.

The 23-year-old possesses tremendous dribbling skills enabling speedy entry into opponents penalty area and being able to play in tight spaces. His off-the-ball movements and great positioning in the penalty area coupled with his stellar finishing ability make for a perfect combination and demonstrate Gimenez lethalness in front of the goal
