AC Milan aim to sign Fikayo Tomori permanently at the end of the season but the transfer could be funded from a sale.
Fikayo Tomori has been a revelation since joining AC Milan in January. The English defender has made 12 appearances so far with the Rossoneri and has immediately established himself as a key player for coach Stefano Pioli.
Tomori has formed a solid partnership with Simon Kjaer at the heart of the defence. The Rossoneri have an option to make his transfer permanent at the end of the season for 28 million euros. The 23-year-old has convinced Maldini and Elliot to spend that figure and to keep Tomori at San Siro for a long time.
Nevertheless, the American owners of AC Milan would prefer to fund the purchase of Fikayo Tomori with one sale. Tomori’s breakthrough has been a bad news for captain Alessio Romagnoli who is considered no longer an untouchable.
The 25-year-old centre back has lost his place in Pioli’s starting eleven plus he has contract problems. The current deal of the Italian defender expires in one year and no progress has been made regarding the renewal. Romagnoli, and his agent Mino Raiola, are asking a contract of five million euros per season. A hefty request that the Rossoneri have no intention to fulfil.
The fact that Romangoli’s growth has stopped in recent years has forced the Rossoneri management to seriously consider his sale. While earlier Milan would not consider offers of less than 50 million, considering the situation 25-30 million may be more than enough to secure his services. Exactly the same fee Milan need to pay for Tomori.
