AC Milan had the opportunity to sign Brazil starlet Richarlison for a ridiculous low fee in the summer of 2017 but opted against the transfer.

In the summer of 2017 AC Milan were very close to signing one of the most talented youngsters in Brazil. Fluminense winger Richarlison was attracting the attention of many clubs after scoring 15 goals that season and the Rossoneri were among the most interested clubs in his services.

Calciomercato reveals that AC Milan had agreed personal terms with the player but couldn’t find an agreement with the Brazilian club. Fluminense offered Richarlison to Milan on a number of occasions that summer demanding a fee of “only” 10 million euros. Former sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli refused and the Brazilian talent joined Watford instead.

In his first season in England the 21 year old left winger bagged 5 goals in 38 Premier League games before completing a transfer to Everton for the staggering fee of nearly 60 million euros. The flamboyant left winger has been capped by Brazil 8 times and has found the back of the net on 3 occasions. This season Richarlison is continuing his progress with 13 goals and two assists in 35 Premier League appearances with Everton.

In 2018 AC Milan spent around 250 million euros on the summer transfer window. If Mirabelli had decided to spend only a fraction of that figure on Richarlison the return on the initial investment would have been enormous. Now it’s up to Leonardo and Maldini to avoid and not repeat such mistakes in the upcoming market sessions.
