At the end of the season Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina will join AC Milan on a free transfer to take the role of vice-Donnarumma.
Tuttosport confirms today that AC Milan have closed a deal for the transfer of Pepe Reina to Milanello. The Spanish 35 year old goalkeeper will not say anything publicly until June but his desire to remain in Italy after years spent at Napoli has been fulfilled by the Rossoneri.
The former Liverpool goalkeeper has accepted to be the deputy of Gianluigi Donnarumma. Initially it was reported that Reina would join Milan only to replace Gigio in case of his departure. The club of Via Aldo Rossi wants to keep the 19 year old goalkeeper from Campania, even if Mino Raiola will try again to lure him away from San Siro.
Reina will sign a two-year contract with AC Milan for 2 million euros per season. There should also be an option for a possible additional year. Pushing the Spaniard to say goodbye to Napoli was the refusal of President De Laurentiis to offer Reina the three-year contract requested by his agent. Napoli want to purchase another keeper with Bernd Leno of Bayer Leverkusen being the favorite. Pepe Reina becomes the second player to join AC Milan on a free transfer after Ivan Strinic.
