Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Lille star striker Jonathan David is AC Milan’s big objective for next summer.
The summer transfer window will end for Italian clubs in three days. AC Milan have completed 9 signings for the first team until now but the management will try until the very last second to bring in Mehdi Taremi. Negotiations with Porto have not been easy but the Rossoneri remain optimistic that a deal can be reached since the player becomes a free agent next year.
The plan of AC Milan is clear: Taremi now and Jonathan David for the future. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that AC Milan have never lost sight of David. The 23-year-old Canadian striker is in fact the long term target of the club and a player for whom Milan would like to make a big investment.
AC Milan have been following Jonathan David for a long time since he was wreaking havoc in Belgium as a teenager for Gent. In 2020 Lille decided replace Victor Osimhen with David and spent a club record fee of €27 million to acquire his services. Their faith in the 23-year-old Canada international has been greatly rewarded.
Jonathan David played a key role in Lille’s stunning Ligue 1 triumph and subsequent French Super Cup win. Few could have predicted that star-studded Paris Saint-Germain would lose both titles in favor of Lille. The Lille star has been one of the best Ligue 1 players in his three seasons in France. In fact, David has scored 60 goals and provided 10 assists in 140 appearances with Lille across all competitions.
In recent years, AC Milan have stayed away from spending big fees on players but they are more than willing to make an exception for Jonathan David. The 23-year-old is still young but has already accumulated lots of experience. He has also shined on international level scoring 25 goals in 42 appearances with Canada helping them participate in the World Cup finals held in Qatar.
Lille have been reluctant to part ways with their most prized asset but next year he will surely leave since at that time he will have only one year remaining in his contract with the French club. It looks like only an offer of over €50 million would convince Lille to sell David and AC Milan are willing to pay price next summer.
