AC Milan are evaluating the promotion of Ignazio Abate alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic to take over from Stefano Pioli.
It is only early December but AC Milan are already out of the Serie A title race and at the bottom of their Champions League group stage. Disastrous results for the Rossoneri who spent over 120 million during the summer transfer window and fired Maldini and Massara to trust the squad to a new management group composed by Furlani, Moncada and Pioli promoted to the manager role.
To say that things didn’t turn out as expected would be a gross understatement. The new management has flopped and Stefano Pioli is under fire again, not only for the negative results, but also for the totally disappointing performances of the squad. The Italian coach remains in his job. However, AC Milan are already evaluating their options.
La Repubblica reports that AC Milan are considering the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the club with full powers to work alongside Ignazio Abate. Ibrahimovic would take over the role of technical director (same as Maldini) with Ignazio Abate promoted to first squad coach until the end of the season where a final decision could be taken for coach name.
Ignazio Abate has done a fantastic job as AC Milan Under-16 coach initially and then with the Primavera squad. Unlike the first squad, the young Rossoneri have excelled in their respective Champions League qualifying as heads of their group and also dominating Dortmund and PSG. In the league, AC Milan Primavera are only one point behind Inter Primavera with the direct derby set for next week.
The Ibrahimovic and Abate duo is seen as the most realistic option at the moment considering that other names like Conte, Palladino and Thiago Motta will be available only at the end of the season. A fascinating temporary solution knowing Zlatan’s charisma and weight and the good management qualities of the new Italian coach.
