AC Milan through their official instagram & facebook profile have published a video of Mateo Musacchio undergoing medical tests confirming his acquisition.

Early morning the ex-Villarreal centre back visited La Madonnina clinic to undergo medical test before signing the new contract that will tie him to the rossoneri club. After the completion of the tests Musacchio declared: “I am very happy to be here”.

The 26 year old defender will be the first signing of the new Chinese ownership and the managerial duo Fassone – Mirabelli. Last season Adriano Galliani tried to sign the Argentinian but without success due to budget restrictions. Now, finally, AC Milan have the financial freedom to close a very long negotiation that lasted more than a year. The ex River Plate player has joined AC Milan for a sum believed to be around 18 million euros. He will sign a 4 year contract of 4 million euros per season. The 27 year old had not featured in Villarreal’s last 3 matches in order to avoid a possible injury before his passage at Milan.

Mateo Musacchio

Musacchio is a product of the famous River Plate youth system. He made his debut with the first team at 16, under the guidance of the legendary Argentine defender and then coach of River, Daniel Passarella. Coach Passarella would latter consider Musacchio as his heir. In 2009 he left Argentina for Villarreal and after a year at their B team he joined the first team to become a stable starter for many years to come. With the yellow submarine Musacchio has played 249 games scoring 7 times and being constantly considered one of the best defenders in La Liga. For a long time he was a specific request of coach Vincenzo Montella.

Milan has almost finished a good year that saw them win the Italian Super Cup (against Juventus in Doha) and return in the European competitions after a 4 year absence. Musacchio is just the first of the many players expected to arrive in the summer transfer window. Immediately after the win against Bologna that secured Europa League qualification for the rossoneri, the club started to build a competitive team for next season. Musacchio is just the beginning of the Chinese era at Milan. Now other notable names are expected to join him. All the attention of the club is now focused on Kessie, Conti, Rodriguez, Belotti and Morata.
