AC Milan are determined to sign Charles De Ketelaere from Club Brugge despite seeing an opening bid rejected.
AC Milan made a significant shift in strategy this summer when they decided to pull the plug on Sven Botman transfer. Due to the limited budget, the Rossoneri have decided against spending a high fee for a centre back. Instead, priority has been given to the attack with a new attacking midfielder on top of Pioli’s wish list. Charles De Ketelaere is the chosen one.
In fact, De Ketelaere is the only player AC Milan are seriously considering with Paulo Dybala being an alternative of different characteristics. Paolo Maldini is impressed by what the elegant Belgium star has done in the last three years with Club Brugge.
The 21-year-old has already said yes to a possible transfer to AC Milan. Journalist Andrea Longoni reports that the Rossoneri are in advanced talks with the player. In fact, Maldini and Pioli have phoned De Ketelaere on more than one occasion. Milan have also had contacts with the player’s family and his agent.
Pioli explained to De Ketelaere that he wants him in his squad. The Italian coach has a lot of faith in the Brugge gem and would like to have him under his orders for next season. AC Milan have already presented an official opening bid of €20 million plus add-ons, however, Brugge have rejected the offer.
The Rossoneri were aware of the fate of their bid but the objective was to open a direct dialogue with the Belgian club. A new bid is expected soon. Charles is a wanted man on the market with Leeds and Leicester City interested in his services. Both Premier League clubs are willing to match Brugge’s asking price but De Ketelaere has informed them that he has other plans for now.
