AC Milan make final decision on Simakan

AC Milan have decided to pull the plug on the Mohamed Simakan deal for three important reasons.

AC Milan have turned their attention to Fikayo Tomori. Chelsea’s Englishman is now the top transfer target for the defence in January. But before making this decision the Rossoneri were very close to Mohamed Simakan. Negotiations with RC Strasbourg were at a final stage but the player’s injury changed everything.

La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms that AC Milan have definitely abandoned the pursuit of Simakan and will try to sign another centre back. There are three important reasons behind this decision.

First of all is the injury of the player. The unending problems with Andrea Conti and Mattia Caldara have forced Milan to avoid important investments for injured players. Another similar case would have caused too many problems for the club.

The second reasons is directly linked with Simakan’s injury. The 20-year-old centre back is expected to stay out for at least two months thus missing a number of games for the Rossoneri. With Gabbia out for a similar period it would have made no sense for Milan to keep another injured player that can’t contribute.

The third reason is economic. While the player had agreed personal terms with Milan a log time ago, negotiations with Strasbourg dragged for too long. Facing the tough resistance of the French club, the Rossoneri were forced to increase their offer close to 20 million euros while the initial plan was not to go beyond 15 million for a new defender. At this point Simakan seems destined to join Red Bull Leipzig.
