In the very last day of the summer transfer window AC Milan signed Sergino Dest on loan from Barcelona following the injury of Alessandro Florenzi. The 22-year-old USA international arrived on a one-year loan with an option to make the transfer permanent for a fee of 20 million euros.
Dest was supposed to serve as competition for captain Davide Calabria on the right side of the defence. The 22-year-old has also been used on the left in the absence of Theo Herandez or Ballo-Toure. Nevertheless, The American has failed to live up to expectations in his first year in Italy.
acmilaninfo.com can confirm that AC Milan have decided not to make Serino Dest’s transfer permanent. The Rossoneri have no intention to exercise the 20 million euros option and the player will return to Barcelona at the end of the season. Milan are also not interested in renewing the loan for another season.
Sergino Dest will have the same fate of Diogo Dalot for arrived for only one year on the right side of the defence. Dest has made 14 appearances so far for a total of 635 minutes on the pitch. Underwhemling numbers that can not justify the €20 million price tag Barca have set for their defender.
Dest also failed to make an impact during the absence of Davide Calabria. The recent formation changes has further decreased his chances of first team football. Since switching to 3-4-2-1, coach Stefano Pioli has decided to use either Messias or Saelemaekers on the right flank.
